The Ayrton Senna McLaren MP4/4 #12 Winner Japan GP Formula 1 1988 1/18 scale model
The Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka took place on 30 October 1988 and covered a distance of 51 laps, equivalent to a total distance of 298.809 km.
Ayrton Senna started the race from pole position in his McLaren MP4/4 from Honda Marlboro McLaren, however his engine failed early on, dropping him to 14th place. In the course of the race he fought his way back to the leading group and was able to take the lead from lap 28. He kept this lead until the end of the race and also secured his first Formula 1 world championship title by winning the Japanese Grand Prix. It was his first of a total of three world championships in his successful, but far too short racing career.
